Sweden's most well-known hard-rock band with the least well-known lineup. Ghost were formed on 2008 by... well, that's just what they won't tell us. The band consists of an unknown singer, disguised as a Satanic pope and called Papa Emeritus II (successor to the equally unknown Papa Emeritus), plus five cloaked and (of course) unknown musicians, referred to as ”The Nameless Ghouls”. The music has the atmosphere of classic horror movies and equally classic, diabolic-sounding bands, such as Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Coven and Mercyful Fate. The lyrics are, obviously, Satanic.
This concept quickly made Ghost an international success story. Their debut ”Opus eponymous” (2010) got lots of attention. Its follow-up ”Infestissumam” (2013) was a great success (#1 in Sweden), despite – or thanks to – the band's controversial image. Unknown or not, the members of Ghost currently rank among Sweden's major rock stars.
