Norway's extreme metal scene contains many bands, but few as legendary as Dimmu Borgir. They debuted in 1994 and albums like "Stormblåst" (1996), "Enthrone darkness triumphant" (1997) and "Puritanical euphoric misanthropia" (2001) made them pioneers in the more orchestral vein of black metal. Subsequent releases have brought Dimmu Borgir even further into symphonic and progressive territory (most recently on the cover album "Inspirato profanus", 2023), and their liveshows remain reliably dramatic.
