France's Gojira are, like Meshuggah, Mastodon and Opeth, certified pioneers in modern, extreme and technical metal. And like the two latter bands, they have in recent times abandoned the idea of consistent brutality for a more eclectic sound. Which has not impeded their popularity at all. Gojira have released seven studio albums since 2001, and the two most recent ones, "Magma" (2016) and "Fortitude" (2022), are just as praised and popular as the classics "The way of all flesh" (2008) and "L'enfant sauvage" (2012) - if not more so. A significant aspect of Gojira's is their well-crafted lyrics, touching upon their own lives as well as the world in general, and whose atmosphere is absorbed by the music, making it even more expressive.
